More Shorts

All Brands has some new boy fabric so I made a couple of pairs of Betsey/Joey Shorts to display in the Baton Rouge store. One is reversible and one is non reversible. I used the longer length version of the pattern for both.

This jpic shows the reversed side. The longer version works the best if a cuff is desired.

The past week I've also made a couple of drafts for new patterns. The first design didn't work out like I wanted but the second design has some promise. My desire is to make a dress that is simple but also able to give the sewer a chance to be creative with trims, fabrics and embroidery.

Betsey/Joey Shorts Pattern Customer Creations

Some customer creations I recently received made from Betsey/Joey Shorts Pattern.

She said, "Here are 2 of the betsy/joey shorts I have made. So easy to make and I love them!!"

Isn't he precious. Now that I have an embroidery machine, I can appreciate the cute matching applique on the shirt. What a cute outfit.

Babysitting and Sewing

I've mentioned my "adopted" grandkids before and this past Saturday I got a chance to babysit for 2 of the 3 sisters - the oldest sister and the new baby. The oldest is 8 and she wanted me to sew something for her. This is what we came up with. I used a halter dress pattern and changed it to make a shirt with a pair of elastic waist shorts. She was pleased and I thought it looked cute on her. We also made a couple of fleece blankets for her little sisters. She loves bringing home gifts for her family.
Here she is with he new baby sister who is only 6 weeks old.

I was able to love on this little one and even got a couple of smiles.

Karen Capri Top and Betsey/Joey Shorts Pattern

The hippo and stripe fabric are by Ikea. I found these and the dots in an Etsy shop online. I used the Karen Capri Set pattern for the top and Betsey/Joey Shorts pattern for the shorts. The shorts are reversible and can be worn on either the stripe side or dots.

Up and Coming New Designer

When Riley (my adopted granddaughter) was 2 years old, I made these pants for her to sleep in one night when I babysat for her. Her mom told me recently that she was still wearing them but they were like long shorts and were starting to make a mark at the waist. She is 8 years old. Can you believe they still actually fit her.

I told her it was time for new ones. She told her mom she wants to design clothes so I thought it would be a good chance to introduce her to sewing.

She came over last weekend and picked out the fabric she wanted from my stash. I cut the shorts out and she helped me sew them. She knows exactly what she wants. She wanted the waist lower and the legs skinnier. I used the size 4 Karen Capri pattern and adjusted it a little to fit her. Since it was a four, the waist ended up lower and I just had to cut some off the length and side seams. She was happy with the results and we had fun sewing together. She seems to have a good eye for fashion and has specific ideas of what she likes. She may be a budding designer in the making.

Customers are very creative at adding their own touches to my patterns as shown by G with these shorts she made from the Betsey/Joey Shorts Pattern. She added a belt, belt loops and a cuff from the contrasting fabric . What a great idea. Thanks G for sharing this picture.

I enjoy reading other blogs and have a link to one of my customers "Sew2BHappy" that I read regularly. She has been sewing for her two children and allowed me to show some of her creations.


This outfit was made from the Annette Reversible Sundress pattern and Sew Sensibles Boutique Bottoms. She also made some hair clips to match from yoyo's out of the same fabric. The Annette Dress is a shorter dress pattern and works great with pants, shorts or capris.

For her son and daughter, she made shorts from Betsey/Joey Shorts Pattern. Her daughter added her own jewelry accessories from a box her mom allows her to play with. This brings back memories of my girls when they played dress up.

The Dee Dee Pleated Dress Pattern was used for this precious dress. I love the dragon fabric.

Another adorable outfit for her little girl. The bottoms made from the Karen Capri Set Pattern. She makes matching hair accessories for the outfits creating a complete outfit.

Thanks Sew 2 B Happy for allowing me to share these pictures of the sewing you are doing for your beautiful children. Seeing what customers create with my patterns is the highlight of my day and a source of inspiration for future patterns.

Look at this handsome young man in his new customer creation made from Betsey/Joey Reversible Shorts pattern with an added applique from a pattern on You Can Make This.

She added a small pocket to the shorts back to better distinguish the front from the back and a wave applique on the back of the tshirt. He's just as cute coming or going.

These are some shorts I made for my friends two boys from the Betsey/Joey shorts pattern. I made each of them two pairs of shorts - one of the fish print and one plaid. All are reversible.

All four only took a couple of hours to sew together. The pattern is very easy and the kind of pattern you end up using over and over.

Betsey/Joey Shorts - Customer Creation

These pictures of shorts made from the Betsey/Joey Shorts Pattern from a customer who purchased the 4 pattern bundle pack. It is exciting for me to see that my patterns are being used by sewers from all over the world. This customer lives in a country called Oman. Admitting my lack of geography or countries of the world, I didn't know Oman was a country or where it was located. I looked on the internet and found out it is a country in the Middle East. How awesome to connect with people from all over through sewing as well as provide me with a lesson in World Geography as an extra bonus.

I was keen to get some shorts made and that night I made one for my 8mth old son and then this past weekend I have finished a pair of reversible shorts for my “almost” 5 (everyday counts when you are “almost” 5 you know LOL). I would have loved to have taken some outside but already the summer is here and it was too hot to go out and play, sorry. I love your blog too! I think for my bub I will make the bigger size as he wears cloth nappies and I find them a bit low on the back but it is nice to have a pattern that is so flexible. I can see that there will many shorts made as gifts this year. I took the “handmade pledge” for this year so I am always on the look out for some great ideas. "

Betsey Joey Reversible/Non Reversible Shorts Pattern

My new pattern is now available on Etsy and soon to be available on YCMT.

Betsey/Joey Shorts Pattern is for boys and girls and has many options. Included are instructions for a non reversible and reversible style in three lengths plus options for ribbon ties, side stripes, ruffles or trim. Included with the instructions for this easy to make pattern are lots of pictures of completed styles to help stir your creativity.

There are 29 pages of instructions and over 100 pictures illustrating each sewing step and pictures of completed shorts in the different styles. Sizes are 1, 2, 3 and 4.

I had a photo shoot at my house Sunday afternoon to take pictures for the cover of my new pattern - Betsey/Joey Shorts Pattern. A friend is starting a photography business in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area and specializes in children's pictures.
